11) Research for Main Task/Title Sequence

The first slide of my mood board lead me to develop the concept of a Mathematician who is challenged to solve several intricate math problems and constantly ends up with the same answer; 666. It consists of two main themes: it starts of with a slight sci-fi feel with all the numbers and complicated math problems but then results in a rather supernatural theme (with 666 being linked to devils).
Another idea that I developed was from the 4th slide of my mood board. It consists of images representing mystery (eyes, fingerprints) which gave me the idea of a crime investigation taking place. This idea was closely linked to the opening sequence of se7en that we studied in class.

What is a thriller?

Thriller is a genre that contains elements such as suspense, tension and excitement as a way to entertain the audience by keeping them on edge.
Within the Thriller genre, there consist several sub-genres which make it a very broad and flexible genre of the film industry. Crime, mystery, psychological, conspiracy and supernatural are examples of some of these sub-genres.
Thrillers usually have a main character (protagonist) who finds him/herself in danger. The plot is often created in a way to isolate the protagonist from the outer world to the extent where we learn more about this character's inner feelings, making us (as an audience) go through all the struggles that he/she faces.
Thrillers typically involve keeping the audience in the dark, making them unsure about what is going to happen next. This keeps the audience engaged throughout the film, which also makes them experience what the protagonist is going through.
Thrillers, like any other genre, have certain conventions, themes and plot styles that define it and make the genre recognisable for the audience.
